Alive’N’Kicking Bristol Taster Sessions: Leaders Required

Alive 'N' Kicking is a highly successful children’s lifestyle weight management service that helps overweight children and young people and their families to reach and maintain a healthier weight.

New Alive’N’Kicking Bristol programmes have started, and they are looking for people to run community taster sessions. These sessions would ideally be run by someone who runs, coordinates or supports a local children's club as this would allow easy signposting to the session.

The community taster days are currently booked in for week 8 of the programme with the dates as follows

Infants and Juniors (5-11Years old)
Horfield Leisure Centre: Tuesday 12/3/2019 4.35-5.15pm
Hengrove Leisure Centre: Tuesday 12/3/2019 4.05-4.45pm
Easton Leisure Centre: Thursday 14/3/2019 4.20-5pm

Seniors (11-16 Years old)
Easton Leisure Centre: Monday 11/3/2019 4.40-5.30pm or 5.10-6pm
The Park Centre, Knowle: Wednesday 13/3/2019 4.40-5.30pm or 5.10-6pm
There is a Henbury programme, but the numbers are low this year so the community taster session is not going ahead.

If there are any programmes that you would be interested in assisting with, please get in contact with Tommy Cains (, office: 01179422602, mobile:07740433239)  or Holly Buckingham (email:, office: 01179422602, mobile: 07956029755).

Racket Skills Course
Wednesday 23rd January 2019, Powells School, Gloucester Street, Cirencester, GL7 2DJ. Please, click to see the flyer to book onto the course.
The racket skills course is a free course aiming to show teachers and coaches the best and most effective way to introduce racket sports to beginners. It also deals with the huge problem for teachers of introducing and teaching a racket sport in a small hall to large numbers safely and successfully.
The course is extremely "hands on". About 50% of the course features slow-moving plusballs ( but other missiles are also used, such as fleece balls, reaction balls and drastically adapted slow shuttlecocks. Roger Stroud, who delivers the racket skills sessions is extremely experienced having delivered many similar courses in universities, colleges, leisure centres and schools all over the country and written a book on the subject 'Racket Skills for Beginners - Twenty Lesson Plans'.
